Have never had them before and not sure if I should undertake the task.
Mom, has gazillions of grapes growing, so we'll be brewing up batches & batches of grape jelly soon, don't wanna over do it on the jams/jellies, & the choke cherries will have to be pitted, so I'm just not sure.

Any opinions, experiences or suggestions to share with me?

Don't wanna pass up a good opportunity/blessing, but don't wanna get overwhelmed, either.

I've never heard of choke cherries. I wonder if you could strain them through a fine strainer after cooking?? Will they be soft enough to do that with and leave the pits behind?

I strain cooked blueberries through multi layers of cheese cloth to get the seeds out.

I don't know what choke cherries are either! My grandpa used to make wine out of some kind of little cherries he had. They were really small and I don't know what they were called.

Maybe look at Backwoods Home and see if Jackie Clay has anything that gives you an idea!

Gonna gave to do some research, Tory.
Have to make my decision, pronto, as the cherries are very ready, for harvesting!

I'm clueless but I found this article with two interesting insights 1) they shouldn't need to be pitted before cooking, just strained after and 2) they *shouldn't* be ripe yet - all red should be gone when you harvest them, and that *should* be mid-August or later (of course, as they say when cooking - "watch the vegetables, not the clock.")
