Anna, that is a great video! Now I know why I do not like Boye brand hooks. I crochet different and like a brand called Susan Bates. The hook is shaped different.
I was eleven when my great aunt taught me the basics. I bought a I Taught Myself How to Crochet kit in my twenties. I learned how to make hats, mittens, scarves and a basic sweater. The secret is learning to read a pattern. Once you know that, anything is possible. That's what the kit does. I make baby layettes for charity (blanket, hat, booties), hats (kids, seniors and cancer caps), and belong to a chapter of projectlinus.org
Blankets are easy, and they make wonderful gifts for babies.
A year and a half ago I bought a I Taught Myself to Knit kit
I started a hat, actually torn apart and have started several times. I don't get the needles, must be a coordination thing. Maybe one day I will actually finish it.
