It is certainly not an easy issue. We had Church members sitting up into the wee hours last night last night watching the news and wondering if their families were okay. Our President & military certainly need our prayers (and, in fact, our Syrian Church members were there praying for the President this morning)- such decisions are never easy.
ETA: and just a point of clarity - they're denouncing the aggression, not the US as a country (or Great Britain or France as countries). https://www.antiochpatriarchate.org/en/page/a-statement-issued-by-the-patriarchates-of-antioch-and-all-the-east-for-the-greek-orthodox-syrian-orthodox-and-greek-melkite-catholic-damascus-14-april-2018/1918/

Trump appointed this Lebanese-born priest as an advisor, article and YouTube video of a short interview of him on Fox News.
http://www.ncregister.com/daily-news/colorado-priest-hopes-to-shape-trumps-mideast-policy https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9sJP75OV3mI
I was wondering why his patriarch did not sign the statement. He was recently in the news visiting Saudi Arabia (Patriarch of the Syriac Maronite Church of Antioch).
http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/saudi-arabia/maronite-patriarch-holds-talks-with-hariri-in-riyadh-1.2124116
The last statement in the article says a lot!
"Saudi Arabia has always been present when Lebanon faced economic and political crises. Lebanon will not disappear as long as Islamic-Christian coexistence lasts.”

Very interesting - thanks for posting.
Maronites are their own group - https://www.britannica.com/topic/Maronite-church it may be that they disagreed, it may be that they weren't part of the dialogue. These relationships can be very complex. It could be that the Pope didn't give him permission to sign in time (since they are under the authority of the Pope)
*I* would be hesitant to "condemn" the recent incident this early on, simply because I know very little about all the behind the scenes reality at this point. Of course, if it is YOUR relatives who are being bombed, it is much easier to have a definite opinion (if not a nuanced one) early on.
The sad fact is that an attack on Assad risks helping ISIS - which makes the whole business very difficult.
The website the Priest referred to in his youtube interview looks intriguing - I watched the first video https://missionofhopeandmercy.org/ (the video is called Ending Christianity in the Middle East)

I don't usually listen to priests on the news, they are insipid, wishy-washy liberal mouthpieces. For some reason I heard this guy and thought he was amazing. (I should not lump them all together, I know.)
My maternal (Cuban) aunt married one of these Syrian Catholics. So I have a cousin who is half Syrian. My uncle was a refugee from one of the earlier Syrian conflicts. It's why I love middle eastern food. It is a small world, after all.

Yes - you should not lump them all together : )
We love Middle Eastern food, too ; )
Our current Parish is mostly Syrian/Lebanese, so we have friends who are strongly affected by this.
