While it may be healthIER than some other oils, i'm not convinced it's actually HEALTHY, kwim? There is only limited "proof" that it's healthy and most of that is circumstantial evidence. ;) A fat is a fat as far as calories go, right?

Here's an article i just read about it.
https://www.livescience.com/37998-olive-oil-health-benefits.html

and another.

I like the second article you posted (after skimming, not reading in depth) - especially the part about Crete. The idealized 1950's "Mediterranean Diet" in Crete was described as "rich in olive oil" - but "rich" at that time & place meant 3 Tablespoons/day - with HUGE amounts of exercise.

I also like this article;

Yeah. Oil is one of those itty-bitty-top-of-the-food-pyramid foods! Right there with chocolate. which also makes me sad - well, even more so, actually!

Actually..... you can have 1.5 oz of dark chocolate a day and that's plenty for me. :)

Well - I'm not sure who made THAT nice rule ; )

But, I'm a milk chocolate fan.

Most of the time, my vegan hot cocoa satisfies me.

It is not wise for me to go near Hershey Kisses, tho!

Chocolate is a necessary nutrient. I take it as a supplement.

As far as oils, I use evoo (from spain, not greek or italian) like my mom did. She lived to be 90. It's drizzled onto finished dishes like soups and stews. My mom used to render leaf lard for frying. I do not do that. My uncle, in his 80's, does this still and eats lots of fresh roast pork. Not store bought, but small farm raised. He still runs his own small business. Manages several crews of landscapers. He is a dynamo.

It's one of "those" things, isn't it! Some people smoke into their 90's (and probably longer) and don't develop lung cancer - why is that? Does smoking truly cause cancer? Or is there more to it? My aunt got emphysema and never smoked a day - but yes, her dh smoked around her and HE never had lung issues!

A good friend of ours will be 90 next year and has eaten anything and everything all her life - still eats large portions compared to most seniors! She has no "illnesses" but has slowed down with a bent over back.

It almost seems like there's no rhyme or reason for these things but if/when you are diagnosed with an illness i guess you try to do whatever you can think of to reverse it. ??

I make every dinner with olive oil and the results are quite promising. Of course, you should always consider spending the calories. Also, check out recommendations for reusing fry oil.
