I've been hearing a lot of negative comments about the Red Cross. "Nine cents of every dime goes in their pockets" and "the media coverage of all the things Red Cross has done wasn't even DONE by Red Cross" and "if you need help go to Salvation Army" (from a Red Cross worker).
I've heard these comments for many, many years. If they're true, how does Red Cross continue? And if they're not, why do so many say it?
Either way, Salvation Army has always been my charity choice.

NO comparison!
Salvation Army is *Martha's* Church! What could be better?
Seriously, Salvation Army is a Christian organization with Christian values and a long history of helping the poor.
Despite their name, the Red Cross is secular and has a recent history of financial scandal - I remember them back in the Clinton days, but if you Google "Red Cross Scandal" you'll find a list of articles on the topic.
When my Mom passed away, the Salvation Army came to get many of her household goods as donations - and they were a blessing to work with. And their stores are great to shop at.
On top of all that, SA takes a firm line on moral issues - they're not "soft" on Christian values : )

RC gets stuff moved around and organized. Sort of the logistics of emergency aid, SA is personal directly helping.
