Dh can not eat out much (bad food choices-McD's Taco Bell, etc.) and he gets bored with packing leftover dinner. So I got him a mini-rice cooker. He now tosses in some chopped veggies that steam along with the rice and then cracks an egg on top when its done that poaches up nicely in the steam. Now he makes up a fresh lunch everyday.

Question for all of you guys?

Do you rinse your rice before cooking or not?

I've heard recommendations for both ways.

1. Rinsing (till liquid runs clear), is good as it removes starch.

2. Rinsing is not good when using white rice because we're rinsing away the fortified nutrients.

What do you do?

I'm a non-rinser! I buy rice that's meant to be sticky (tho not mushy!) and I intend to keep it that way.

If you really like that fluffy, long grain rice that is impossible to pick up with chopstics because no two grains will hold together - then I say rinse! And then just take a vitamin pill; ) There's really no difference, nutritionally. The nutrients on the outside of white rice are sprayed-on synthetic vitamins - just like from a cheap pill.

Dont know which model it is (its stays on the job site) got it at wallymart. It has one push down button on the front and a glass lid - so dh can see when his egg is ready without having to let out the steam.

I do not rinse, I have a rice cooker. I just measure the water and the rice and add parsley, seasonings and leave it till done.
