Looking for a good program that will teach the Spanish language for 4 year old boy and 6 year old girl...something that they could do together.
Thanks!

Welcome Alicia!

For Greek I use Mango Languages (as well as other stuff) - free thru many libraries. It's free (if your library offers it) & a very user friendly program that also offers Spanish.
http://mangolanguages.com/index.html

for younger children, just try 1/2 lessons, and repeat the lesson till they get it. It might take them a few more tries than it takes you.

There is a text on the screen, but it reads everything to you - so it's fine if they can't read.

There are some folks on here who actually SPEAK Spanish who might be able to advise better than I. I remember a long time ago someone shared a link to a Spanish show that was similar to Sesame Street, but specifically for teaching Spanish as a second language.

Salsa! Great show. No English is spoken but it's geared towards young children and its entertaining.

I was old to get Dora the Explorer but NOT the English version. Get the Spanish version where they SPEAK Spanish as the first language. Finding that can be tricky from the U.S. it seems? {Finally found one but MAN they speak FAST!} https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnOrwCP7gmI

I like the Whistlefritz videos but i'd suggest getting them thru a library; a bit spendy for what you get imho. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOjiAHVxPGY

Yes - Dora the Explorer is great in ANY language! We like it in Greek, too : )

I wasn't aware of Salsa! Georgia based? Dgs watched some tonight. :)

I think it's just good to keep it before them. Learning the names for things, simple commands from mom, those are the things that need "layered" to imbed them in the mind. I have a book called Household Spanish that brings everyday commands into focus. Things we say all the time like "clean your room" "the table is dirty" "where are my keys" are things that will stick over time.

Yes! I wish I had a Household Greek! (but not a book- audio : )

What's really lacking in language instruction is the actual language KIDS need. My DD can order two ice cold beers in Greek - thanks to various language classes. (and the relatives DO get a kick out of that ; ) but she can't say, "do you want to play on the swings with me?" or "Let's color" (of course, we can ask a real person, but the lessons don't have it)

Yes... We can all order a meal in Spanish, but in normal conversation we get that deer in the headlights look!

My Ds works with Spanish speaking people (is saying Mexicans "politically correct"?) he is learning a lot of conversational Spanish now.

For youngsters the best way to learn a language is to hear it spoken daily.

To the OP :check your library for dvd's of children's movies or books on tape in Spanish
Also! Music cd's!! We had a few that my DC loved. I can't remember the exact names of the cd but I'll never forget the words to. "under the magnolia tree" :D

We used La Classe Divertida and they loved it at that age. They can watch the dvds and listen to the audio cds and do the projects. Lots of fun!
