I was pretty laid back about wall decorations when mine were home schooling. My entire dining room walls were covered in charts, posters; alphabet, color spectrum, money counting, clock/time telling, etc.
I had the entire top wrapped around with a morse code chart and cursive alphabet. It looked like a wall paper border.

Do you have a place where you could put the timeline up and leave it?
Maps and timelines, etc. are great to have already out for instant use.

The dining room/school room here was so fixed in our lives that I still remember clearly the day I finally took everything down. I was glad to have my dining room back to a dining room again but it was so sad to see the home school years behind us.

Great minds think alike, Tory!

I've been contemplating where to hang it - I cannot hang it up high, because it is very detailed & would be un-readable. I'm thinking maybe to hang it above the railing on the steps up from the basement- because it's just about the right length : ) But, it's relatively heavy, and I've been trying to figure out how to hang it without ruining it or the wall.

Our dining room is technically our "school room", but we usually don't end up using it much. I do have a dry erase board on the wall and used to have two really nice big map posters on the wall, but Xavier got up on a chair and tore them down and destroyed them. :( Now I'm hesitant to put anything else on the wall. I had been planning to put a timeline on the wall, though, so maybe I can figure something out. Maybe put up the timeline and just get rid of all the chairs.
