Me either, Carli. Until this year, with this particular child!

I've always loved piecing together just the "right" stuff. That was one of my greatest joys.

I just hope everyone has a wonderful year - both moms and students! :D

I never used TOG. I heard wondernormous things about it though. :) Sounds like an awesome year Carli.

CLW-Learning Adventures- A World of Adventures was by far one of the greatest unit studies we done. Please update us often and share tid bits of your journey with us!

I do have to sift through TOG very carefully. Not only are some of the books a real snore, they do have a very heavy agenda, especially in Y2. I'm using it mainly for trivium-level suggestions (sifting through) as well as for projects, literature worksheets, and discussion with the 8th grader. We will use SOTW/HOMW as our spine. We will turn to other sources for more of the Church history,

We really enjoyed SOTW. Your plan sounds like so much fun!

I'm actually done planning, and we've already started our new school year, but I'm still working on inputting all of it into OLLY - a Homeschool Planner for Mac. Here's our 3rd grade line-up:

VP's Judges-Kings, Story of the Ancient World (Guerber/Miller)
RightStart Mathematics Level E
Spell to Write and Read
First Langauge Lessons 4
MCT's Level 2 (Grammar Town series)
Writing With Ease 3/4
Latin for Children A
VP's (Self-Paced) New Testament Greece and Rome, Diana Waring's AC&B audios & SOTW1
God's Design for the Physical World
Suzuki Violin
Christian Karate
Classical Conversations memory work
I Can Do All Things, Artistic Pursuits

:) Melissa

We're doing first grade with my DD and after dropping spelling we've got:

*Bible reading, memorization (my own selections), & character quality (using the Duggars' list)
*Phonics Pathways (2/3 finished--been doing it for over a year very irregularly)
*Growing with Grammar
*I'm completely winging math right now. I hope to get Math Mammoth soon and we have the Math-U-See blocks which have been great.
*We'll do various read alouds for Literature (currently Heidi, then we'll move on to Francis Hodgson Burnett, try to hit up all of Beatrix Potter's stuff before she grows out of them). Basically anything that's quality. Sometimes I'll tie the selections into history.
*We're studying Ancients this year using the Usborne Book of World History as a spine, the library for extra reading, and the internet for pictures, videos, and coloring sheets
*We're doing Life Science this year -- I let DD choose which animals she wanted to study; we're using an activity book called My Body for the human body, and I'm thinking plants will be mostly nature walks and identification guides. We may journal our garden's progress, also. Library and internet for this also.

Most of this is based on The Well-Trained Mind's method, but I'm trying to take liberties and not feel bad about it. I took some suggestions from a recent thread of mine and we lapbooked our "visit" to Minoan Crete and DD has really liked that. I explained we wouldn't do a lapbook every single time, but for the big ones, we will.
