I am working with this little fellow who has epilepsy - some varried learning challenges, but he can learn. Behaviour a bit of an issue. Been doing some assessment worksheets with him; he can count to 100 but I don't think there is a lot of understanding re. place value or anything - he knows his alphabet and we have been shoring up vowels and con. but actuall reading and work with numbers is shakey. I taught my dd to read almost 20 years ago, and this is quite different. Ideas? thanks

I used, "Teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons."
It's only about $20 and then we moved on to Bob Books after that.

The lessons are short. I used the sentences for penmanship, also.

I'm using Phonics Pathways with my 9 and 6 yr old. My 9 yr old is a struggling reader because of how they taught (or didn't teach) him to read in PS. He is making improvemment and gaining confidence with this book. Dd iis also doing well with it. She is already a pretty good reader, but there are gaps in her phonics knowledge.

We use Math U See for math and I know a lot of people use it for kids with learning disabilities or who are just struggling with math. It's a great program.

I have a 7 year old and we are in the middle of learning to read as well. Currently, we are using http://Time4Learning.com. It is very interactive, which is good for little boys ;)
I am also using some educational apps through my Samsung Smart TV.

Hope this helps :)

Can you get him listening to some stories? Librivox.org has many books read aloud that you can download free. Our library system also has many. He could draw or play with Legos while he listens. Try starting with some short stories like Aesop's Fables and work up to longer ones. This will build his vocabulary and his listening skills.

I've been using beestar math and reading pros. It offers weekly worksheets. Questions are great and cover many aspects. The online worksheets is an excellent idea and my daughter like it very much. Plus, worksheets can also be downloaded.

Pinterest has a LOT of ideas for math manipulations. He probably just needs a lot of hands on activities to make it "click" for him.
