Well, this was all helpful advice. Let me begin by saying I do NOT just let him do whatever he wants. I am working on incorporating more structure into his day. I'm looking specifically for ways to keep him occupied while I'm giving an older one a lesson. I've tried holding him on my lap, and he just disrupts the lesson.

I'm working on a couple of things. I've been saving empty toilet paper rolls, and I'm going to make a bean bag, and let him do bean bag bowling. It'll help with his co-ordination and counting (how many did you know down? How many are left?). My ten-month-old does nap, and we do more focused schooling while she's down, but my son no longer naps (until he completely crashes at 4pm) and so that is an extra challenge. I do still have him sit quietly in a room for about 30 minutes during "quiet time".

He does allow me to read to him, he loves water play and finger painting. But as I said, it's during my lesson time with the older two that I need ideas for. Thanks.

I was thinking of you today while doing my regular net-surfing, so I noticed this post that I would have otherwise ignored. https://kendra-fletcher-8fmr.squarespac ... -busy.html

In addition to this blog post (which has nice hotlinks throughout), this lady has also written an e-book on this topic, if you're interested. She's a Mom of 8, so I imagine BTDT : )

My dd stopped napping the day she turned 2.. so I can relate to have a non-napper!
For my dd.. her room was right off of the family room, down a little hallway. My (now late) dh put up a baby gate and I super baby-proofed her room.
I was able to put her in there for times when I just needed to not chase after her or pull her out of things. ;)
I was able to peek in on her and make sure she was ok and she was able to play with her toys for a while in a safe place. Sometimes, I'd even find her asleep in the middle of the floor surrounded by her books and toys.
