We have a major wild fire just outside of our town, Canon City, CO. Things have died down a little in the evening calm, but the winds are supposed to pick back up in the morning and the temps are supposed to stay hot.

We have had some evacuations on the west side of town, we are south east. Our town is small enough that the fire could wipe it all out if the winds blow across and carry the fire with it.

Please pray that they are able to contain the blaze before anymore damage is done. They have already evacuated the prison on that side of town as a precaution, and relocated them to a prison on the other side of town that is further out.

Our local tourist attraction The Royal Gorge Bridge and Park has some damage, but the bridge seems to have been spared thus far. Some of the animals that are part of the park have died. Some buildings burned.

We had 4 fires within a 1 1/2 hour distance today. Two have been contained, although are not out yet. The other two continue to burn and cover thousands of acres. The season is young and the area is so dry. Already on water restrictions due to drought conditions. The smoke is heavy in the air. Praying tomorrow is a day of containment and success in putting the fires out!!
