My ds has requested American History with an emphasis on Native Americans. I have looked at Sonlight Core D, Winter Promise American Story I and American Crossing because they all have several books about Native Americans. I would really like something that is all laid out for me and not have to try and piece something together on my own. Does anyone have other suggetions or comments on the ones I have considered?

Thanks,

I used the following resources for a unit study on Native Americans. I had purchased a guide from Hewitt Homeschooling but it seems they are not offering that anymore (I couldnt find it on their website). It contained a booklist and a study outline. In our homeschool we used a lot of historical fiction and non-fiction books to try to bring history to life. The books below are part of our permanent family library now.

Everything you ever wanted to know

For a crafty kid try this resource http://www.amazon.com/More-Than-Moccasi ... +moccasins

I have the first book listed, detailed drawings of shelters by different tribes. Its a 'coloring book' but if you are not familiar with Dover Books, they are not ordinary coloring books and have very detailed drawings and accurate factual descriptions

Book of legends (Dover has several, this one was just $2.50

Thank you for the great resource book suggestions. The Scholastic book looks great.

ETA: Also thank you for mentioning unit studies. It brought to my mind Soli Deo Gloria Unit Studies and they have one for Native Americans. I think I might have found what I want to use.

Once upon a time an author named Sonia Bleeker wrote tons of books on Native Americans. I loved these as a child! I'm sure they are out of print, but you could work your way through any you find.
