Great link, Martha! Thanks for sharing.
I just started brushing my teeth with Coconut Oil this week, all by itself.
My teeth felt really clean afterward.

I have used it in my hair, but haven't exactly found the right amount. I find it leaves my hair very oily and my course hair rather limp when I use it in my hair.

Just made the deodorant this week and really like it as well.

Have also been using it as a moisturizer for some time for my skin and face and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE how soft it makes my skin!

That is a great question Linda. I also have gout on my left foot that comes and goes.

Gout used to be referred to as the "rich man's" illness, because only the wealthy could afford those foods that exacerbate it.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, a vegetarian diet completely wipes gout away in most (or perhaps all) of the people who try it.

Here is a mainstream article (not from a vegetarian site) on the diet for gout.

Linda,
Gout is a disease that affects your metabolism due to excessive amounts of iruc acid in the blood and uric acid deposits that have crystallized in the joints. The kidneys filter uric acid in our bodies and uric acid is a by-product of protein.

If it were me, I would approach it in the following manner:
*it is VERY important to alkalize the diet,
*greatly reducing amount of animal protein consumed.
*avoid soda altogether
*make sure LOTS of pure drinking water is consumed to flush metabolic waste from the body
*increase following foods in diet: complex carb intake like fresh fruits, dark green veggies & other alkaline-forming foods

Supplements that I've seen help my clients with gout, including my dd's boyfriend have been:
Alfalfa, Devil's Claw, Joint Support, KB-C (a kidney combination) and PDA, which helps break down proteins in the blood and gut.

Cindy,

I've been blending in 5-6 drops of Essential Lemon Oil with about a quarter size amount of shampoo and my hair comes out so shiny. I have very curly, dry & brittle hair. Even my older son has been commenting on how shiny and nice my hair looks. :)

Hannah, please tell me how you are using the coconut oil...
I'm still curious. I get the Lemon Oil addition to the shampoo. My hair has lots of shine, just as I'm aging is getting drier, yet still overreacts to conditioner, leaving my hair looking very weighted down, and greasy.

Cindy, Have you tried baking soda in your hair? I gave up shampoo a while back, and my hair looks really good. If the water softener is on the fritz, it will get greasy. If it gets a little too dry, I use a little vinegar to rinse for just one day.

I have used coconut oil to do the oil cleansing method on my face. I need to get back to that.
It is a good moisturizer for hands and feet and elbows.

I posted this link on facebook.
