This is a slide show of diet gurus with what they look like and what they promote, very telling, mostly low-carb-meat-eaters against low-fat-vegans

Love it! Thanks for posting that : )

I generally don't like pointing out when someone is overweight (since I'm overweight myself, I'm sensitive to that ; )

But, when someone scams someone out of money promising to help them lose weight, while in reality destroying their health - well, like the video says, they're fair game.

I still get confused though. I do not tolerate grains well at all! I have low iron. I am on edge of anemia, sometimes dipping into it. I do not feel well if I do not eat red meat fairly regularly. I love and eat a lot of plant foods. If I were to switch to vegetarian or vegan, how would I balance out the needs my body has. Medium to high grain consumption is not an option, so how to you adjust for that? How do you get enough iron in your diet without taking iron supplements that cause severe constipation in me? I am using unsulfered black strap molasses now and that is helping tremendously in my energy level, haven't had my blood checked for my red count yet though. Just wondering.

A vegetarian diet does not cause anemia - quite the contrary. Lots of vegetarian foods are loaded with iron, and not only that, but a more usable form of iron.

I am not anemic, but the omnivorous women in my family are. So, if it's genes, I should have it worse than they do, but I don't.

I've also found a lot of people sometimes blame things for their health problems that turn out not to have been the cause after they adopt a vegan diet. For instance, back when I was an omnivore, I had heartburn regularly. I thought it was caused by tomato, spice, oranges, you name it. When I got the animal products & excess fats out of my diet, miraculously, the other things stopped "causing" me heartburn. It may be that some foods only cause bad reactions when COMBINED with other foods that look innocent, but are the real troublemakers.

If you are really interested in pursuing a vegan diet, I would encourage you to try a vegan diet for a month, with the foods you CAN eat (you've said white rice works well). See how you feel. Then gradually, try adding "troublemaking" foods back one at a time, and see if your body's reaction to them has improved with the vegan diet.

I think I would like to try vegan, however, I am already battling the anemia issue, so trying to be sure that I am getting what I need all the way through. I can not risk dropping any lower, so am researching what plant based foods might give me the boosts I need, or combination of foods that will do so.

Lentils, beans & greens are your friends for iron.

I'll be happy to provide any help I can : )
