I read a recipe for overnight night oats. In a small Mason jar I add half a cup raw oats, nuts, ground flax seed, raisans, and shredded coconut, then fill it up with rice milk. I had it this morning, mmm. I think that would make a great snack. Didn't need any sweetener.

I eat over night oatmeal a lot!! It's so good. I use old fashioned oats, berries, almond milk, Chia seeds, vanilla, protein powder, and sometimes yogurt. I could eat it every day.

What makes it better overnight, vs. just eating it they day you make it? Seems like it would turn to mush?

I'm with Lisa. The overnight oats were more work imo. It takes 2 min to make oatmeal in the microwave. If anything i'll make a bigger batch and freeze them in "pucs" (muffin pan) then put them in a baggie. Two of those fill dgs right up without having to get out all the extras.

Well - to me they're two different things.

Overnight oats are eaten cold and are very creamy (not mushy) because they're never cooked. I can make a few days' worth all at once - which makes them more efficient. I tend to like them in the summer.

Cooked oats are warm, cozy and - yes - also quick. Just different : )

Yes, cooked oats are mushy. I like it cooked, but the overnight oats have more of a cereal and milk texture to me. Like Anna said, you can make up a big batch ahead of time. It only takes me a few minutes to mix it all together. Refrigerate overnight. Easy.

Ps; these are not quick cook oats, which have a higher glycemic (sp?) index than old fashioned oats.

Hmmmm, it sounds like the Muesli I eat, except I don't leave it overnight. I just pour some into a bowl, pour some vanilla almond milk on it and let it sit for a few minutes. It's delicious! I like to mix fresh fruit/berries into it. The box says you can leave it overnight, but I'm afraid to, because it already starts to get soggy after just a few minutes and soaks up the milk. If it got even more soggy, then ewww. Maybe it's different with regular oatmeal. I get confused by the different oats. I know I don't like the quick cook oats. When I eat oatmeal, it's just the old fashioned oats.

Yes - Muesli = Overnight Oats : )

Two different words for the same thing : )

When I was a teen and in college I would toast my old fashioned oats in a dry skillet, then add the stuff including brown sugar, which would melt. I was making homemade granola. Then I just got lazy and skipped the skillet toasting.
