What oil do you use? I have used corn, vegetable, olive, canola....but how do you find oil NOT made with GMO products? I've heard some of you mention coconut but havent tried it yet. Can you use that for say popcorn and does it change the taste of things much?

Spectrum brand from the health food store is good if you're looking for cold, expeller(sp?) pressed, organic oils.

I use regular Extra-Virgin olive oil for most applications myself (Greeks are required to use olive oil by law ; ) And, yes, I use it on popcorn - spray it on.

Occasionally use Sunflower (flavorless for baking) or Toasted Sesame (strong flavor for Asian foods).

I don't use coconut because its high level of saturated fat - I have a genetic cholesterol problem and don't need that kind of help!

I've used this one for years Louana Coconut Oil its not 'organic' or 'virgin' so it doesnt cost that much. I do like it to make popcorn. I keep it in the fridge and it solidifies so it looks like shortening. I use it for baking instead of butter/shortening. I also use a Spanish Extra Virgin Olive oil, Goya or Vigo if I can find it. The Vigo I can get online for $100 for 3gls.

Would LOVE the link for the SPanish Extra Virgin Olive Oil. How long does this last your family of 3? Just curious, since there are 3 of us now. We purchase our Olive Oil at Costco for a 1/2 gallon, but it is $20 something for each bottle. Need to check on the stability of Olive oil before it goes rancid, since we've never purchased large quantities of it. That's my only concern in buying so much at a time.

I was buying it a gallon at a time locally, but the stores around here have gone with 'designer' olive oils in small, expensive containers (6-8oz). They are all just awful, blended oils from different countries. This one is from Andalusia, the olive capitol of Spain and I prefer its taste over Italian or Greek oils. Its just what I grew up with.

how long does it last...we go through about 16oz a month. I drizzle it on our bean soups, and use it for salad dressing, and on our garlic bread instead of butter.

Here are two articles on the topic of oils; the second link shows provides an extensive list of oils' smoke points.

You can use it as a OCM oil cleansing method for your face. Look up oil cleansing method and it will tell you how to do it.
I use almond oil on my face after washing it before bed time. and on my elbows.
I used to do the OCM but stopped and should or put it this way , may do it in the winter when my face is drier. It really cleans the pores.

as far as for cooking, I use broth in place of oil, and apple sauce for baking in place of oil. Oil is oil, still clogs your arteries.
