Try short grain rice, Lisa - it's delicious plain.

I find that "instant" rices as well as often long grain rices are lacking in flavor. But short grain is delectible.

Of course I have long grain and medium grain, but no short grain! I'll have to get some and try it plain. I just can't imagine liking plain rice, but I'll give it a try.

That is so funny Lisa, I love rice with butter, salt and pepper. Do not like it with cinnamon and sugar.

LJ, I probably have hypo thyroidism, so maybe I'll look into the Uncle Ben's. Let me know if you find the info/the why behind it.

Short grain rice is SUPPOSED to be sticky when done (that confuses people a bit who think it's ruined). It's vaguely similar to sushi rice in texture.

It has a delicious, sweeter flavour and a chewy texture you just can't beat.

Once you get used to plain rice (which may take a few exposures), you just love it : )

ah... I wonder if the short grain is what my aunt used to make for breakfast? It was very sticky and yummy. I'll have to give it a try sometime.

"Botan" Calrose Short Grain Rice, if you can find it : )
We can get it either at the Oriental Grocery or at our Kroger's Asian section (not in the regular rice section! )

Pam, I typed out a looooong, informative post to you about hypo thyroid, but it disappeared!!!! :o

Anyway, I am too pooped to re-think and re-type everything, so I'll just give you the names of two very good books.....

Thyroid Power

and

The Thyroid Diet

I can't remember the authors' names, but you can do a search for them at Amazon or Overstock. They are very good. CindyLouWho also has some good recommendations for vitamins/supplements.

I have no idea where my post went! :ugeek:

I've also had several of my posts disappear. My little pearls of wisdom, gone, just like that.

I've been selecting all and copying before submitting. Then, if it is lost, I just open again and paste : )
