Mine came down 100 points when I went on a lowfat, vegan diet. The vegan diet alone won't do it for me (mine's very genetic) - but if I also greatly limit added oils/fats/nuts/olives etc - then it will.
Adding soy protein powder has also helped me in the past (when I was not vegan), but not to as great a degree.

I simply cannot do a vegan diet. Mine is genetic also. So not sure what to do here.....

A lot of people find it daunting - but I have to say it was easy once I got started.
There are anti-cholesterol drugs that work in the digestive system instead of in the blood (Like Questran) - perhaps you could talk that over with your doc?
Natural supplements (garlic, red yeast rice, soy powder) might also help.
