by Bob Harper (from NBC's The Biggest Loser)

I checked this book from the library yesterday on a whim. I haven't read it yet...just *looked* at it. There are 20 chapters, and each chapter is a *Skinny Rule*.

So.....

Rule #1: Drink a Large Glass of Water Before Every Meal - No Excuses!

Rule # 2: Don't Drink Your Calories

Without having even read anything other than the cover and the Table of contents, the first two rules make a lot of sense. ;) The book also includes a lot of good recipes!

I guess I should read the book, huh? :D

I am sticking with what I am doing.
We already know to drink water and eat fruits and veggies, so it is nothing new. Just selling another book.

If you've found something that works, stick with it, I say! And you are right, Linda....EVERYONE'S trying to sell a book, program, diet shake/smoothie/pill, supreme exercise ball, etc...

The book is interesting, although I can get bogged down in rules, and then it becomes discouraging. I find that all I do is think about food and eating ALL. DAY. LONG. Have I had enough water? Did I eat enough fruit? Have I had my 50 grams of protein? Have I had my 50 grams of fiber? Have I had some of this or enough of that? :?

He makes some good points, though, and many/most/maybe all of them make good sense. I will probably pick and choose the ones that fit my life and family and situation, and not worry too much about the ones I can't/won't do.

I have enjoyed looking at the recipes, though. Some of them sound really good!!!

Surely he's not advocating starting all the rules at once?

I'm trying to think baby steps cuz I'm so prone to a kind of "all or nothing" approach. IF... Notice that's a BIG IF... I could just get myself to regularly drink one glass of water a day, THAT would be a huge difference for me. I told dh we're going to start having water with meals but then..... I set tea or pepsi or apple jc! Water just sounds disgusting and, from what I've always heard/read, water too close to the beginning of a meal can make it harder to digest foods.

Found a link to what I mean:

But then there are these!:

Linda, I agree, stick with what works. Finally I have found what works for me and my body's sensitivities. It is so refreshing. I do, however, like to hear things like what LJ was talking about because some are common sense, some make me chuckle, and sometimes things are downright wonky, so they entertain me. :)

Me? I love rules! Give me the list and I can check it off. Give me a principle and I will have to analyze it to death! ;0)

I have a few rules with Weigh down,
drink water after each bite, to wash it down, Chew your food and enjoy it and put your fork or spoon down after each bite.
I know I tend to eat less that way,
and no liquid food.
Well, that would not work with me,
I have chicken broth sometimes, or V8 .
Over the years I have done every kind of diet there is. some worked some did not. But as I get older I cannot remember what all they tell me. :)
So I chose Weighdown because it worked really well for me 16 yrs ago.
But this time I am sticking to it. Some days I mess up and others I do very well.
16 pounds gone in 6 weeks is good. Before I did good if I lost 1 lbs in two weeks.
I have a goal , I pray a lot more, food is not my focus.
They have a support group online .
There are only a few rules with this and they are rules I can handle. Not weigh food, not having to leave out my favorite food, but not eat tons of it either, just enough to statisfy me.
I cannot wait till I get down to my senior year high school weight. Praying it will be by the end of February if not sooner.
We all have to do what works for us.
DH sees me eat 1/4 cup of ice cream and not want the whole quart. That is amazing to him.
Like I tell him, focus and prayer are doing it. and my journal. I see what I am doing and when I am losing weight I continue to do the same thing, not change it drastically in another direction, if that made sense to you. It does to me,
Food is not my focus, God is. that is my new motto.
