So, I'm upset that I just read the ingredients list on the vegetable bouillon cubes I just bought and it says "whey powder". What? Why is that in my veggie bouillon? Are there any out there without this in it?
Yes - there are MANY brands that are vegan - you just need to check the labels.
DO be aware tho that every bouillon brand I know of (and the Goya Sazon, is included here) has MSG - that's what makes bouillon "good" There are some organic brands from the health food store, but every one I've ever checked has MSG just disguised under another name. Personally, I *like* msg - but if you don't, be warned.
http://www.truthinlabeling.org/hiddensources.htmlLook for the Kosher ( U with a circle around it) with "pareve" written next to it - that ensures that it is free of animal products (it means no meat or dairy) with the possible exceptions of egg & fish.
Thank you. I don't know much about MSG. All I've heard is that it's used in Chinese food to make you feel more full, though I don't know how true that is. I don't know if it's supposed to be bad for you, or what.
BTW, I made your tofu burgers the other night and they seem to be a hit amongst those who have tried them. Dh and dd are the only ones who have not tried them yet. Christian gobbled his up and said it was really good and today he was begging me for another one for dinner, but I told him he needed to eat what the rest of us were having and he could have one tomorrow for lunch. After dinner, I was putting some of the burgers into the freezer (I only baked some yesterday and did the rest today) and Xavier came up and started fussing for one. I think he thought they were cookies, lol. I gave him a little piece, thinking he would spit it out (because he does that with a lot of things), but he wanted more, so I ended up giving him the whole patty and he devoured it, like it WAS a cookie! My mom and I also enjoyed them, though not having cheese and mayo on it will take some getting used to for me, which is an issue that has nothing to do with the burger itself, just me trying to avoid dairy.
Another BTW, I was shocked to find out that Worchestershire sauce has anchovies in it! I told dh about it and he was so grossed out because he HATES fish, as it is, let alone something like anchovies. Why? Just why? So, I'm really glad for the vegitarian Worchestershire sauce recipe and have some in the fridge now. Does it last as long in the fridge as the regular sauce?
