An elderly friend of ours mentioned that she loved the burnt sugar cake her mom used to make her. My mom tho't it would be nice to make it for her bday! Then mom got weak and doesn't have the stamina to stand and cook so dh and i did it!

It's sitting on the counter cooling and it looks wonderful! I can't wait to try it at potluck tomorrow. Our friend is now 89! :D

It took us an hour to put together - due to our lack of experience, i suppose. And then another 45 min or so to cook because i did the angel food cake pan rather than 2 round pans. Came out like a pound cake, i'd say. Good enuf with cool whip but i'd rather have a chocolate cake. :P

If you insist! ;) It did give me a kind of satisfaction seeing it turn out nice and raised. Most homemade cakes i've seen (and my try at it) have flat and crooked layers! Dense, dry, .... bleh.

Speaking of which, a lady bro't in a homemade four-layer cake today with a raspberry mousse filing between the layers. It was beautifully done. I tried just one bite and, thankfully, didn't really like the taste. But i was impressed by the prettiness of it and it's making me think i MAY give cake making a try sometime, again.

Sweet-making is dangerous for me. If it's in the house, I feel compelled to finish it : (

My compulsion is savory - more specifically oil and salt! Saltines with butter, chips, etc.

And we have to answer a complete questionnaire if we want them before the allotted time, right? LOL

Well, I was kinda counting on us each doing each other little favors and saying, "I'll let you have your chocolate now since you gave me my chips early ; )"
