Our shower needs new grout, or some other solution - there are bits of grout worn away here and there, and the tile is no longer perfectly watertight.

Anyone ever dealt with this before?

Anyone fixed it themselves?

I searched the internet for how to do it, and it doesn't seem THAT difficult - but I wouldn't want to undertake the entire shower at once. Is it possible to do a section & cover it with plastic during showers while it cures, then do another section? (we only have one full bath). Is it a straightforward matter to redo it, or do the videos make it look easy & it's really impossible (I know if I do it in sections, the color match won't be perfect, but I can live with that)

Anyone hired a re-grouter & have advice?

Anyone had one of those shower surrounds put in & have advice?

Any knowledge you have on any of topics would be much appreciated.

Now just regrouting shouldnt be that bad, but it sounds like you have to check the back of the tile to see if you have water damage and rot, meaning that just re-gluing the tile and regrouting wont be that easy.

I dont like those separate piece tub surrounds, but we did install a one single unit tub and faux tile surround that I liked. There were no seams for water to get into, and it was easy to keep clean and no grout to stain or wear out. Something like this

I think you'd have a bigger project than expected since you'd have to remove your tub. But they do sell seamless tub surrounds only that sit on an existing tub, but you'd have to remove all your old tile and still check the wall for damage.

Thank you, Briva - that information is a BIG help. I guess we may need more than regrouting.

Our shower is a stand up unit - I think the surround can be done without the floor. Personally, I love hotel-style surrounds, and don't care for tile (I know, once again, I'm weird ; )

My only real hesitation about them has been the uncertainty (finding a good, competent workman) & cost of a surround.

I have regrouted before. Takes some time but mine came out looking pretty good.
