This guy preps 5 days of meals at a time - for himself & a friend. Everything's ready to go, no temptation to reach for junk. No hassles. No wasted money : )

I finally had time to really look at this. I love the idea, too! BUT.... it makes my head spin! I think it's too many new ideas and ingredients at once, for me. :?

I wouldn't use THEIR recipes - I'd use mine ; )

Just the concept was what I like : )

Me, too! So, this is what my first try was:
Maybe have some ham and cheese and make 1) quiche muffins including ham, cheese, scallions and spinach with cornbread muffin, and grapes, 2) sandwiches - ham, cheese, lettuce, 3) “lunchables” - crackers, ham, cheese, snap peas, and vegan Oreos 8-), 4) potato, ham and cheese soup, maybe with Brussels? and 5) mac and cheese with ham and peas! 6) Grilled ham and pineapple kabobs with rice (giving greens and cheese a break), and ... last, if not least, 7) grilled Swiss and ham sandwiches with pineapple and basil leaves! (Martha Stewart - my new flavor combination attempt.) Maybe some baby tomatoes on the side. :)

How about you?

*Edited to fill out the menu.

Come come! I'm anxiously awaiting your offerings! LOL

I don't dare do a week of starches like macaroni. That would be maddening and unimaginative anyway. ;) I could cheat and look up eating on a dime type recipes because that is the secret to eating cheaply, imo. That is eating meals that include the more expensive or greatest volume of the meals. Am i rambling? I feel like i just had 6 straight shots of espresso! LOL

I see that i could take out the ham in the quiche, the sandwiches and most of the other dishes to make it that much cheaper. My mom suggested a separate little crockpot for my use so i didn't have to eat the meat if i didn't want to. I think that's a brilliant idea, actually.

I need to go set the table for dinner anyway. I baked potatoes and dh is grilling some old pieces of steak i had frozen. Trying to clear the freezer! Dgs had a fruit smoothie with some of the frozen fruit. :) Making headway.

My first inclination is to use this as a method to re-direct leftovers (a method I already employ to some degree). A bulgur or rice pilaf with a portion of meat & a spoon of veggies makes a lunchbox-ready meal for the freezer.

Or leftover refried beans, salsa & rice rolled into some tortillas for freezer burritos

That sort of thing.

But, I love the way this guy does it on a grand scale : )

That just seems more doable to me. Normal like, ya know? ;) The 74 meals stumped me tho'. There are no breakfasts, snacks, salads, so that $ would need to be added and then i wouldn't be saving money. However, the IDEA alone would probably end up saving me money in the long run. I wouldn't use the disposable containers unless i were going to use them over. Yikes! So the other food money could come out of that. At some point i'd love to try this. Right now dh is doing breakfasts and mom is doing dinners! That leaves me the simple lunches.

What i *could* do is double or triple a recipe i make for lunch and freeze them. That would be a way to start slowly.

I also ran across this one about freezing: http://www.allcreated.com/best-way-to-f ... n=gtupdate

I use *some* of his ideas about freezing - but:

Slider zipper bags ALWAYS leak & tear! I will only use the press-to-seal sort : )

the beautiful flat stack that he shows doesn't work like that in MY freezer - they invariably jump out of the freezer & land on my TOES -and break open - and ruin the food. SOOO - I stack them in a large, rigid plastic freezer container : )

But, the aluminum defrost tray? DEFINITELY : )
Getting all the air out ? yup : )

All in all a good video : )

I've not had those issues with the freezer bags! Bummer. I think your idea of stacking them in a plastic container is smart, tho'. They do slide around a lot!

I wonder if you could set the bags in an aluminum ice cube tray - those old ones - and get the same effect? I can't remember seeing aluminum trays around here?
