I'm with you on the meat prices. My new favorite meal has been steakless Pepper Steak lol. I just use extra onions, peppers and maybe add snow peas and carrots. Love it over rice. I can just eat a bowl of the "pepper sauce". Our garden didn't do too well but we have had peppers, onions, beans, some potatoes, and cherry tomatoes. Had lots of yellow squash early in the summer...ate it almost every night for weeks lol.
Our local farmers market is really high also.

I have the same issue with farmer's markets. The prices ARE higher. However, the farmer's markets around us are very restrictive. You have to have certain government certifications to be there, and you have to pay for your table. So, the cheaper way to do it is to look on Craigslist or local papers for farmers selling directly from their farms. Another thing to look for is a co-op.
