I used to make one where I grated a bar (or two) of soap, and added an equal amount of something else like borax or washing soda???? but I can't remember  And I believe you added 2 TBsp of the mixture to your wash load.

I wish I could remember this recipe as it was easy to make and worked well.

This is mine:
1 Cup (same as 1 bar) Grated Kirk’s Castile Soap
1/2 Cup Washing Soda
1/2 Cup Borax

Use 2 tablespoons.

I make the liquid by the Duggar's recipe and usually use a bar of Ivory with about 1/4 bar Fels Naptha. Makes 5 gallons concentrate. The Duggars site has their recipe for dry also.

That's it!!! THANKS! :D

I will have to look at Kroger (which is in the next town...30 miles away) for Castile soap or Fels Naptha....I can't find it here in my small town. But I know I used Ivory soap for this particular recipe and it worked very well....It was great for getting out tough stains and odors.

Laurajean, I found Fels Naptha at our small little Mexican store!
It was dirt cheap, too.

I have looked at every store in town, and so far, haven't found it. Of course, I could be looking in the wrong place, too. I always look on the laundry detergent aisle, but I also look on the bath soap aisle, too. It does a good job!

I've never been able to find Fels Naptha in a store here. I ordered a case About 4 yrs ago from here
www.soapsgonebuy.com

The price has gone up a bit but I remember I caught it on a good sale which is why I bought the case so maybe it will go on sale again before I need more!

Ivory makes the clothes nice and soft too and it cleans well. I finally found Zote in a store and bought a bar but have not tried it yet.

My favorite is with Zote soap, but I am having a hard time finding it here.
I also went to Wal-Mart and Fry's (Kroeger) in search of Borax and Washing Soda, and couldn't find it the other day. I will try the other Fry's and hopefully they will have it, or it will be harder for me to make my next batch of soap. : (

I can't seem to make the dry soap work in my washer. We have VERY hard water here, though, so perhaps that's why. It makes a bad residue on our clothes.

I use Kirk's Castile because it is a vegan soap (no tallow or lard) and I am vegan. Fels-Naphtha should work fine in this recipe, too, if you're okay with animal fat in your soap.

Kirk's is available in our store (Kroger) in the bath soap aisle, while Fels is in an obscure place in the laundry soap aisle (near the washing soda & borax!)

I went to a Kroger yesterday and I found Fels Naptha ($1.49 per bar), but I could not find Kirk's Castile soap. I probably should have looked in their natural foods/organic foods section, but I didn't think about that til I got home.
