You are given $100 to buy food for a week long camping trip for 5 people. You may choose 5 staples from your pantry but everything else must be purchased. What 5 stapes do you choose and what else do you buy? What meals will you prepare?

Anybody game? :D

Not getting into specific calculations, but in general, I'd go with:

Bisquick for pancakes and drop biscuits.
Several pounds of bacon.
Jimmy Dean Sausage, for breakfast burritos.
Potatoes
Dehydrated hash browns
Cooking Oil
Eggs
Bread
Milk
Coffee/Tea
Creamer
Sugar
Syrup
Butter
Hamburger Meat - for burgers and a few other meals....
(I'd plan a few warm dinners; spaghetti, potato soup)
Tortillas for breakfast burritos.
I'd probably make potato salad & chicken salad, to take ready made.
I might take boiled eggs, and boiled potatoes, for snacking
Could fry up some chicken and take that along
We often take bagels and cream cheese for easy/ready to eat meals.
Salsa/chips - made at home.
Chunk cheese
Salad fixins' (if plausible)
Fruit
Cookies

Done that before. I think the 5 staples would include coffee, oil, bread-eggs-milk. I used to package my own ready to meals into freezer bags or take items I could whip up into a meal. My campers liked those cup of soups for snacks, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and leftovers for lunch. Breakfast was hash browned potatoes or homefries with the catch of the day (fish).

Spagetti, sauce, a veggie, parmesan
tuna casserole w/peas & carrots
chili macaroni/chili dogs
beef stew
rice and beans, salad

If I had access to a refrigerator, I would take some pinto beans and brown rice from my pantry, making both prior to our camp out. I would make a burrito mixture with the beans and rice, saving some rice for stir fry in an iron skillet with veggies. Would purchase some farm fresh eggs and raw flour tortillas for bean burritos and breakfast burritos. Would purchase some good organic potatoes to make a potatoe bar with grated cheese. Egg drop soup would also be made with some of the eggs. If I knew everyone in the family would eat egg salad, I'd make some of that for sandwiches, purchasing or making the bread to serve it on. Would also use some of the cheese to make grilled cheese sandwiches.

Would use sprout seeds to grow sprouts for sandwiches and salads 4_5 days before we left for trip, purchasing organic lettuce for said sandwiches and salad. (Lost track of how many items I have left to purchase, but would buy fruits and veggies with the rest or take canned peaches and applesauce from what I put up earlier in the year.
