In trying to research some immune building supplements for the family; I came across this little ditty.
I thought it looked like a good protocol to follow, (this flu season)!

Maybe you might find it helpful too...

Here are a few of my suggestions...

Wash hands often - especially when you've been "out in public" (church, grocery shopping, etc). I prefer just plain old soap and water, but I will also rinse my hands with cold water if nothing else is available. I heard a Dr. on tv talking about cold/flu prevention and he said that even rinsing your hands with cold water would help wash off cold virus germs. And I keep a thingee of hand sanitizer in my car for emergencies.

Gargle and spray - twice a day! - Go to the Dollar Store and get the store brand of Listerine (or you can use just plain 'ol salt water) and gargle in the morning and at night. Also get some saline nasal spray and spray your nasal passages twice a day - morning and night. The nasal and throat passages are where the cold/flu germs collect and are stored, so keeping these passages flushed often is a big help in preventing the flu/cold.

Drink lots of water - really. This helps to flush the toxins out of your body.

And I am a big believer in vitamin D3. It's an easy thing to do.

Stay away from people you know are sick - unless they're your kids! (well, that one's a no-brainer! ;) )

I haven't taken a flu shot in years and I also haven't gotten the flu in as many years. The last time I, along with my son, got the flu shot, we also got the flu.

Me neither Laurajean. I stay away from sick people. I hear someone hacking at the store or at church and I am away from them.
Our Sunday school class teacher has told people in our class "if you are coughing or have a fever or sick period, stay home." We are all in our 60's.

I'm confused. They are pushing this flu shot just like with the swine flu and saying that the flu is already a pandemic. Seems like there's always more flu going around when more people are getting the shot - or am I not getting something?

I've heard this is "the throw up flu". ;-)

This shot is supposed to be 62% effective (I read recently) and 42% of the population gets it. So, 62% of 42# is what? about 1/4 of people should be protected by the shot. The rest are unprotected - for one reason or another. I get the shot every year. Thanks be to God - I've never contracted the Flu that I'm aware of. Maybe it's just a coincidence? But, I'm stickin' with it : )

Quotes:

When researchers have reviewed the medical literature for influenza immunization studies published between 1967 and 2011, they've concluded that effectiveness ranges from 16% at the bottom to 76% at the top with "pooled efficacy" of about 59%

Dr. Jefferson points out that in healthy young adults for whom the shots work best, "you have to vaccinate between 33 and 99 healthy adults to avoid one case of influenza...In healthy adults, the vaccines shorten duration of illness by half a working day." If other consumer goods, such as cars or toasters, were so unreliable, we would be outraged.

My dh mentioned last night that a bunch of people in the area where he works all have the flu, so he makes sure he wipes down his area with clorox wipes, and sprays everything with lysol. And washes his hands frequently. He keeps some hand sanitizer on his desk, too.

I asked him if he wanted to get a flu shot. He said that all the people who are sick so far, are the ones who have gotten the flu shot! I thought that was interesting.

ETA: He works at an Air Force Base (civil service) and medical people were making the rounds giving flu shots to the civilian workers for free (I believe that military personnel are required to take the shot).
