I'm in the market for a new dishwasher. Any advice to offer? We will be looking for a built-in model.
What brands or features do you think I should look for?

I will look forward to the suggestions as well. I know dishwashers are not a necessity, but I will be grateful when we get to replace our dead one.

I have a Kenmore. When we moved into this house (which had no dishwasher!), I decided on stainless steel so I bought the 2nd from the top of the line. At our old house, I had the top of the line plastic tub dishwasher which was roughly the same price as the 2nd from the top stainless tub. Now I REALLY wish I had gone with the plastic tub. This dishwasher does not get things as clean, and I spend a lot of time running an empty cycle with vinegar and then bleach. Maybe it's our water, but this one has definitely been a disappointment.

Thank you, Martha. That's the kind of thing I need to know.
I grew up with a lousy dishwasher. I thought they were all like that. Mom finally replaced it with a GE that had a spray arm for the TOP shelf, too! It worked amazingly well (with really hard water). But, alas, it was not built-in, and I need a built in model for my smallish kitchen.
And, I don't know what OTHER features it might have had that I never noticed. SO, I'm hoping for more input- like your plastic tub info. Thanks : )
