If you need something to entertain kids in airplanes, cars, etc, here is an idea:
Save the business-card type refrigerator magnets that you no longer use. Put stickers on the front of them (either free from the grocery store or purchased) and cut around the shape of the stickers. This way you can make all sorts of little magnets - alphabets, favorite tv/movie/storybook characters, religious symbols, etc.
Put them in a little metal box (like the kind cough drops or mints come in) or a bigger metal box, put them in your purse & take them on the road.
Any time you need a few minutes' entertainment, you can pull it out for anything from spelling practice to story-telling games.
