Post subject:  Cigarette smoke?

I recently got a suitcase at the thrift store - it smells of cigarette smoke.

Anyone know any great tried & true ways of dealing with the odor?

I have aired it out - it still needs help.

Could you try some baking soda?
Maybe those odor balls for sneakers?
Fabric softener sheets?
Isnt there something people use for cat urine on carpets?

I was going to say mist with vinegar, also.
Or mabye Baking soda then close it up, so the soda will absorb the odor....

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I've been saturating it with a vinegar spray, and leaving it out in the sun/air to dry. It seems to have improved quite a bit.

I paid 1.99 for it, and figured it was worth the gamble : )

dd once found an oilskin coat(couldnt wash it) that was really nice but REAKED of cigarette smoke. I hung it outside in the sunshine and sprayed it with febreeze on and off, it eventually released that awful smell.

I might have to go for the Febreeze, Briva!

Right now, it smells of cigarette smoke AND vinegar!

I only paid 1.99 for it, so I hate to spend more than that to clean it up!

OOh febreeze is great. I can only tolerate the original scent but yes, it's good stuff.

Have you tired baking soda?? Just open a box and set it inside the suitcase and close the suit case... then just let is sit like that for a few days?
Baking soda is supposed to absorb odors.

Maybe I should try baking soda - I'm a little skeptical on it, but maybe it could work?

It's amazing how strong cigarette odor gets when you're not used to it any more!
