Unfortunately, some people think they are above the law. I can't imagine talking to an officer like that. I know kids these days lack respect, but she should have known better. It's sad that he had to use force because she was just looking for trouble and wanted to play the victim.

Of course, if that were my family member, I would be upset to see her fall. But she didn't give him much choice by resisting arrest. Maybe if he'd just stood there and waited for back up to help she wouldn't have fallen.

Unfortunately, in our "police state" you have to do anything a police officer says regardless of whether it is constitutional or not. I wonder if anyone will recall all those movies about Nazi Germany where the soldier says, "Your papers, please."

Was he justified in arresting her before she started talking ugly? I don't know. I do know that police officers get very upset if you give any resistance at all. Why? Well, some may be on a power trip, but the more likely reason is that they know intimidation is all that stands between the small number of them and the huge general populace if people decide to disobey.

It looked to me like he arrested her after she was being defiant. I think the reason most of them get upset when people resist is because they are trying to do their job and follow protocol and people like this needlessly waste their time with games like this. Everyone knows they need to show ID, proof of insurance, registration etc. when they are pulled over. If they don't want to do that, they should not break the law.

It's sad that every single police officer trying to do their job is seen as the bad guy that's out to get you. Most of them are just trying to do their job and it's not asking too much to show an ID card when you're caught breaking the law. He didn't request anything out of the ordinary.

I think the officer could have used some discretion and tried to diffuse the situation, instead of going from zero to ninety, in ninety seconds!

They are supposed to be "PEACE OFFICERS", NOT GESTAPO!!!!

Yes, she was being feisty, but REALLY, dragging her out of her car and throwing her in jail!!!! REALLY???????

I don't think I'd be very proud of the man if he were my husband or son.

She was being defiant. He told her he needed her license and she refused. She was speeding. She broke the law. She had her purse right there. Who knows if she had a gun in it. I am sorry. I would be very proud of him if he were my dh or my ds. He was doing his job.

I know they said he was following protocol, but it would be interesting to see if he had anything to say about it. It would also be interesting to see the full video. I also think no one would say anything if it was a younger person, but an older person elicits a more emotional response. Maybe the question is, should people of different ages be treated differently when they're being defiant? I don't know. I wonder why she said he could arrest her, but then she just sat there and wouldn't let him. That's why I think she wanted that outcome. She could have avoided it all so easily and been on her way.

She doesn't look 77. She could easily pass for early 50's. Since he didn't see her ID, he didn't know how old she was.

At 77, she should know to be respectful to those in authority. What an example to set for her grandchildren!

Well, she did refuse to give him her license and having excuses is not the way to go. He was right.

I just watched the video. (Couldn't do it earlier in the day due to internet issues.)

I think he should have called for back-up sooner, preferably a female cop, and I bet the lady would have gotten out of the car. At her age, she could have been confused, especially if she had a bladder infection like she said. Yes, he can ask for her ID and insurance, but seriously, was she such a threat that he should drag her from the car? If additional cops had come, she would probably have seen things more clearly. She didn't curse at him (at least that I heard,) and she wasn't nasty. She just had her mind made up and was being stubborn -- and that's what leads me to believe that she was confused. Nobody in her right mind would refuse so simple a request especially if she needed to go to the bathroom and showing her license was between her and the toilet. ;0)
