Yes! and no! While i would love to see shops close down to encourage more face time with friends and family, i also see the flip side. Since i practice my Sabbath on saturday, if the big stores were closed on sunday, that would mean all of my shopping would have to be done on weekdays. Not usually a problem for ME but for those that work it could be.

It also makes it difficult for saturday Sabbath worshipers to get work hours if they can't work saturday OR sunday. And then cutting working hours across the board also means a lot more people won't get the hours.

Of course there are still many work places that would have to remain open and they require services.

I'm not really talking about "time with family" - but rather honoring God. (and, as the article makes clear - so are the Catholic Christians in Italy and Poland)

Honoring God on one day of the week - IMO is better than not Honoring God on ANY day at all - which is our culture's current practice.

It's a step in the right direction! :) When i was manager of the drive-thru coffee stand i needed someone to cover saturdays on a regular basis. The girl i most wanted to hire was SDA and could not work on saturdays. I was bummed and so was she. She asked for a different shift but they were already taken by "senior" employees that did NOT want to work on saturdays.

So, you would be happy if they chose to shut the shopping down on saturday instead of sunday - just so long as they were doing it to honor God?

I was quite happy to find that when my Mom was in an SDA hospital, the gift shop was closed on Saturday, and the other unnecessary hospital functions were closed. Likewise, if I ever visit the Holy Land, I'll be delighted to see lots of closed shops on the Jewish Sabbath.

But, for the vast majority of American Christians, The Lord's Day is the First Day of the week (https://biblehub.com/acts/20-7.htm), and I wouldn't want them to arbitrarily change it to another day. (Which is to say, If someone is Sabbatarian, I respect that, but I strongly disagree with Christians who are not Sabbatarian, and are free to take the First Day of the week (which is to say, they're not a cop or ER doc or anything like that), but say, "Well, I decided to take Tuesdays as MY Sabbath.")

Ah good. We agree again. I take the saturday Sabbath but i also observe the sunday Lord's Day. I find there's just no way for me to view our often busy sundays with any kind of rest or focus on the Lord, even tho' i am at church!! LOL When i observe the Sabbath i am so much more ready to serve on the Lord's Day!

We actually got into a little discussion at work about that. The farmer's work long long hours to get their crops in while the weather's decent - before it rains. They rather disdain any farmer that stops for a Sabbath. However, the Sabbath farmers that start their Sabbath after noon on friday and continue it thru late monday - :? . Well, they are not good witnesses imho. OTOH, they make ends meet and if that is how they CHOOSE to work, that is certainly their perogative. I'd rather have them observing their Sabbath than going the other way.
