I was told that was the stuff of tv shows. But it's how they tracked the Austin bomber " ...the FBI was able to come up with a list of phone numbers and individuals that were in the area of the bombings when they occurred using cell-site analysis and high-tech computing systems that can find patterns of callers in certain areas." http://www.kxan.com/news/investigations/how-investigators-found-and-caught-the-austin-bomber/1066069358 |

While the way it's done on tv may not be exactly accurate, the ability of doing it is there. |
