Israelis consider Jerusalem their capitol - at least in Spirit. But, Palestinians disagree, and the international community has in the past refused to put Embassies in Jerusalem, instead insisting on doing business in Tel Aviv.
America has a tremendous amount of power with what aspirations of other countries we do or do not acknowledge. It's hard to understand the sway we have around the world when we live HERE and do not feel that.
When the American President elects to put an Embassy in Jerusalem, he is *acknowledging* the Israeli perspective on the matter - much to the dismay of the Palestinians.
But, putting it in Tel Aviv *acknowledges* the Palestinian view.
There is no way to be "neutral" on Israel/Palestine. You are always taking a side.
