Lake Livingston Dam is breeching levees and now they are evacuating people from below the dam!

I hope Lake Conroe can contain it's waters.

Continue to pray for the people of Texas.

My ds wants to go help so bad. I had to talk reason to him. He can't just leave his job and school with no notice! He is really upset and wanting to help these people. I've told him before to persue work in Ems or first responders, so this disaster may sway him into that line of work.

For now though, he has responsibilities that he can't just walk away from.

They have TX Nat'l guard plus 100's of local volunteers and the Cajun Navy from Louisiana (bless them). These people train for stuff like this. If you can hook up with a church group for AFTER the emergency response that would be very helpful. The Lutheran Church has networks and send youth volunteers to hand out cleaning supplies, clothing, toiletries, and a kitchen truck to serve hot meals. Even a truck with washers and dryers they set up to help folks AFTER. They would go down to NOLA and Mississippi for years after Katrina.

The salvation army here is asking for people willing to go to sign up. Only its be willing to leave asap and be gone for 2 weeks.
I told ds if he can arange time off, he can go with the second flow team that will relieve the ones going now in 2 weeks.

If I weren't still dealing with TOM, I'd go now.
Sucks being a woman sometimes. :(

Your ds is a wonderful person. I understand how he feels, I feel the same way. Just like I felt during Katrina, helpless. The pictures and stories are horrific. But I'm doing what little I can here, helping with the shelter that's in my town. A bunch of my neighbors have been helping, too, and our local shelters actually said they're fully stocked and don't need anything right now. Common, everyday people are doing everything they can. One couple from my town, has family down in Rockport and they are collecting things to take down there for the people later this week. I spent the morning going through our stuff to see what I can send down with them. People are going to Houston from all over with their personal boats and helping. It's amazing. Houston is going to need long term help.

And HEB! Look up HEB on FB, that are amazing! Down there with their fleet of trucks, cooking people hot meals. I've seen them respond to many disasters. They even have a disaster response department. They're a grocery store! I love them!
