Got this email:

Hello to Members and Friends of CASPIAN Consumer Privacy:

We need your help to stop school children from being spychipped.
Texans: Please join us in San Antonio to protest the first day of
"spychipped school."

On Monday, two schools in San Antonio, Texas, will force more than 4,000
students to wear mandatory RFID tracking devices around their necks! The
so-called "Student Locator Pilot" plans to use active, unencrypted,
always-on RFID tags with a 70-foot read range, and a network of
nearly-invisible readers to pinpoint and monitor students' every move
while they are on campus. See: http://www.nisd.net/studentlocator/

TEXANS: PLEASE JOIN OUR PROTEST

Date: Monday, August 27, 2012
Times: 7:30-9:00 AM when students arrive at school, and
3:00-4:15 PM when they are dismissed
Location: Jones Middle School | 1256 Pinn Road | San Antonio,
TX 78227
Who: We welcome concerned members of the community, parents,
students, teachers, and staff
RSVP: Send an email to SanAntonio@spychips.com with your name
and # of people in your group

LEADING PRIVACY AND CIVIL LIBERTIES GROUPS HAVE JOINED WITH US

This week, CASPIAN authored a Position Paper on the Use of RFID in
Schools, co-issued by the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC)
and the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, and endorsed by the ACLU, the
Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), Big Brother Watch, Restore the
Republic, security expert Bruce Schneier, and many others. The paper can
be found here:

WE'RE CALLING FOR A MORATORIUM ON RFID STUDENT TRACKING

We emphatically request the Northside Independent School District to
immediately stop using RFID to track students until a formal safety,
technology, and privacy impact assessment is conducted. We call on the
district to:

* Immediately cease issuing RFID-tagged student ID cards, and
recall all cards that have
been issued.

* Disable all RFID tracking equipment on school premises.

* Notify parents that the planned deployment of RFID been
suspended pending the
safety, technology, and privacy impact assessment.

* Call a public meeting to allow concerned parties to share
their views and concerns about
the "Student Locator" program.

* Provide a climate of respect and non-discrimination for
students, parents, and staff members
with philosophical and religious objections to RFID
tracking technology

We appreciate your prayers and support!
Please share this email with others, especially friends and fellow
freedom lovers in Texas.

In freedom,
Katherine Albrecht, Ed.D.

So scary and maddening! Not only is it disrespectful to the parents, it's disrespectful to the kids and their privacy.

Read the letters to the parents!

There is no option for opting out. These are also required for access to the cafeteria and library. No card, no eat! They *say* the cards only work at school. Yeah right! What, do they think we're stupid? Nevermind, don't answer that!

I almost WISH I was one of the parents. My blood is boiling.

Just yesterday, I saw some kids walking down the street (after getting off the bus), & they had I.D. Badges like my sister(s) where to get on base. (The lanyard type.)
I didnt know that some kids were already required to have those now a days.
The microcipping is the next step, I guess......ugh.

They think all us 'frogs' are already too comfortable in the pot of warm water, and they are turning up the heat. I have been calling every civil rights lawyer in the Austin area about my issue with my 4th amendment rights being trampled on and many are saying, 'so what'...SO WHAT!

Thanks for sharing this article, I have one old homeschooling buddy that will soon be a rep in the TX house and I will forward this to her and to the Texas Home School Coalition.

Wow. I wonder what the kids are thinking. Is it just part of life for them or do they SEE the slippery slope we're on?

My dd told me that there are microphones all over the hospital she worked at. Conversations can be monitored at all times.

I don't know if I'd even buy a NEW house these days. They could be implanted with all kinds of spyware stuff. sheesh

Well, no need to implant spyware in new houses. TV cables can easily be made to work two-way (your TV could be watching you right now, if you have cable). And, that nice little machine you're typing on can hear everything you do & see with very little trouble.

Technology can do anything already. The Grace of God & basic morality are what keep any group of people from living in a completely totalitarian state.

I lead a pretty boring life - so I feel bad for whoever might get assigned to watch ME ; )

I know I was not the typical teenager. I was giving speeches on RFID and spyware in my English class. They would not have gotten something like this by me. I don't know about the middle schoolers, but a lot of the high schoolers probably feel insulted by this. At least they should.

I like how they tell parents "We know you expect us to know where your child is at all times." I'm pretty sure most parents of high school students would not hold the teacher responsible for their child skipping class and expect the teacher to leave their class and go find them. I would expect my child to responsibly be where they were supposed to be. If they weren't the school would inform me and I would deal with my child. This is no way to teach responsibility. These are kids, many of them almost adults, not cattle.

Now it's finally in the news:

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/09/12/te ... t-id-card/

I can't believe only ONE parent out of the whole school is alarmed! I know parents are too willing these days to comply with the government, but still, only ONE parent? And in conservative, freedom-loving TX, too! I'm disgusted.

"Schools, of all places, should be teaching children how to participate in a free democratic society, not conditioning them to be tracked like cattle,"

Great quote.

What's to stop kids from putting the ID in their locker while they leave the building? What's to stop one kid from wearing the ID of three friends while they go have a party?

Am I missing something?

I spent a LOT of time in the public schools over the past two weeks (recruiting for Sea Cadets.) I'm astounded at what goes on there! I haven't been in one in many years. Did you know that they have police officers stationed at the school? They have security guards in the cafeteria. (Middle & high school)

No one is allowed to leave the cafeteria until the bell rings, and when it rings, watch out for the stampede! In the dark ages when I was in high school, I never set foot in the cafeteria. People ate lunch all over the campus.

The high school has a high fence and a GUARD SHACK. It was operational during lunch complete with red/white striped turn-style. I had no problem getting in, but everyone was questioned when leaving. I asked the candidate for superintendent what was up with the guard shack and he said that the principal had problems with kids leaving during lunch, and they were worried they would have a traffic accident. Yikes. They can't have a traffic accident any time?

To visit a school you have to have your drivers license scanned, the photo recorded, and then a badge with that photo printed for you to wear while there.

But no, we don't live in a police state. :0/ Kids are desensitized to being "under guard" from the moment they step in school. It's very 1984-ish.
