Human menopause is an evolutionary puzzle. Scientific studies have yet to draw a clear picture of why women lose their ability to reproduce at around age 50. Now, research from Finland suggests that competition for resources between older women and their daughter-in-laws may have had something to do with it.

I'd go for a show of hands of all the women on this message board that are over 50 and desiring to be pregnant, desiring to get up in the night with an infant!
I am VERY VERY happy to hug my grandkids, then send them home to much younger mommy!

I like being an older Mom (not over 50 yet, but getting there!)

And, a lot of Grandmas enjoy full-time Grandkid care (including some in our family.)

But, you have to consider whether you'll be there for them in the college years, too. It's true there are no guarantees even if you're younger - my Dad passed away at 38 - but the odds do change.

Well.. my step sister and her biological mom were both pregnant at the same time. They gave birth 2 days apart. The Duggar's have children about the same age as their grandchildren..
so that blows their scientific theory right out of the water... lol!

and nope.. *I* have no desire to have an infant at my age (47 tomorrow). HOWEVER.. I've had my kids. If I had none and really wanted one.. I guess I'd feel differently.
My cousin got pregnant at 45. My SIL had a lot to say about it.. but I told her.. that cousin had the right to have a child if she and her dh wanted one. It wasn't my business. I was happy for them. That baby is 2 y/o now and they don't regret her for a moment. :)

Yes me at 40, no way. I'm done. I'm just too tired.

oh and I think their opinion is hogwash.
