http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000087 ... 17644.htmlThe first article I posted said that starbucks earnings were unharmed by their gay marriage support. But, the Wall Street Journal paints a different picture. Their earnings are down 10% in the four months since they took the pro-gay-marriage stance. Don't let the press convince you that boycotts aren't felt!

There was a bookstore chain that located in our town and had placed some highly questionable materials in highly visible locations. A group of local clergy went to the manager and asked him to move them. The manager did. A new manager came in a year or so later and asked why the highly questionable material wasn't in a position of prominence and when told the reason, moved it back to prominence. The clergy went to him and made the same request and he refused. They said "We're not going to the media, we're not raising a stink, we're just going to the folks at our churches, explaining the situation, and asking them not to do business here. They might be dropping off a card explaining that they no longer do business here." The manager said to go for it. Business dropped off and the manager went to local media and whined about how the evil social conservatives were trying to put him out of business. Less than a year later, the book store closed their doors. They insisted that it was "economic conditions" and not the boycott that caused them to pull up stakes and that no bookstore could make it in the location they were in. Another regional bookstore chain moved their store into that location and has thrived ever since.
That's a long way to say that boycotts do indeed work, but the folks have to stick to it and ignore the media.
