Sixties teen idol Bobby Rydell has undergone a liver and kidney transplant in Philadelphia.

He is 70 yrs old. why do doctors do those kinds of surgerys and transplants on people that old. I know that I would not want it done at that age, so much can go wrong.

If he was on a waiting list like everyone else, why not? We live in an area where people over 100 are not out of the norm. There are plenty of folks 70+ that are still active members. We had a faithful member that had to have her cars key taken away from her at 90. She was the first to arrive for Sunday School and the womens Bible study on Tues nites.

I'm guessing he would have died if it wasn't done, since those are pretty vital organs and he obviously wanted it done, so why would they not do it? I hope they never reach the point where they turn away patients from life saving surgeries based on their age.

When you're 96, 70 doesn't sound very old at all!

I have issues with organ transplants, as many of them require a donor whose heart is still beating, which I find disturbing. On the other hand, I have a relative who is alive because he got one, and I kinda like him: )

Assuming you're going to have this sort of procedure done at all, I have no problem with a 70 year old getting one, assuming he didn't get any celebrity-related special favors. (I am completely unfamiliar with the man in question - I'm not very aware of pop-culture)

No kidding. I have a friend in her 80's who is in better physical shape than I am - she walks 6 miles every day. She's my hero.

I think any type of socialized medicine will do just this! (Whether it's Obamacare or Romneycare -- both will be just as guilty of it!)
