Well, this was passed in retaliation for a bill that our Congress passed that does not treat Russians well. In addition, there have been a number of cases where Russian children have been adopted and then not taken care of properly. What's really sad is how many children are out there who need families!

Yes - there was a case that got a LOT of coverage in Russia a few years ago. An American family adopted a child - after a year or two they were having trouble with him - so they put him on a plane back to Russia BY HIMSELF - "Return to Sender" so to speak.

That kind of thing causes a lot of hard feelings about adoptions in the country of origin.

I come from a family of adoptees - (Three of our Six family members were adopted : )
It can be a very good thing - but it can also be a very difficult thing.

I feel really bad for the families who are mid-adoption when this sort of thing happens, and for the children who wait and wait and wait for a family as they get older and older : (
