I think it's great. I don't think that it is appropriate to have the big public thing on the Lord's Day, and I'm glad he's honoring the tradition of respecting that.

But they will be using the Koran also.

I didn't see that in this story. Is there a newslink about that somewhere else?

I agree about the Lord's day but it could be done on monday. Coming into office saying he was going to be the most transparent President... uhm...... this just doesn't work. This is one place I think the press NEEDS to be if it's not going to be public. The swearing in should be public.

I think the Constitution says "January 20" - I don't think there is a way to move it without leaving us technically President-less (or, making the Speaker of the House President-for-a-Day?). If I'm wrong on that, then I agree with you! I also think a little press presence would be permissible without making it into the full-blown event.

Ahh, I see. It's in the 20th ammendment. When it falls on a sunday it is a private ceremony with the public one on the following monday. And there will be press allowed on sunday.

I was confused when I read that other presidents have been sworn in on Jan 21 but it was probably because the 20th fell on sunday. It's been that way since 1933 according to wikipedia. :)

The way I see it, our Country has a long tradition of respecting the Lord's Day.Unlike the National Day of Prayer & other times, this time our President has chosen to respect that traditionn rather than trying to change it. Even if it's not his own view or sentiment (only God can judge that!) the fact that he is being respectful in his actions pleases me.
