maybe more like a political statement.
I saw a bumper sticker today that had four versions of old glory, one of them the 'rebel' flag and it said, "These Colors Dont Fade".
I had an instant idea.
Came home and painted an image of old glory that IS fading from the top down and the stars are jumbled and the red and blue are bleeding down onto the lower stripes. With the heading, "These Colors R Fading". I did this because dh wont let me paste a pic of it upside down.

I think presented this way it's actually a better way to communicate than the upside-down message.
Upside-down can be a distress signal, but barring full war conditions, it is usually seen as an insult. If I didn't know YOU and just saw the upside down flag, I would just be offended - not want to start a dialogue.
But "These colors are fading" sends a more thought provoking message that can open dialogue.
