Spinning off of Sis's previous subject..

I've seen commercials lately where they are talking about "citizen soldier's" (ie: Become a Citizen Soldier)

Is this the National Guard?? IF so, when did they change it??
They used to just say "Join the National Guard".
Is a Citizen Soldier something different?
Makes me think of neighbors policing each other!

I've not seen the commercial (given that I have no tv)

But, "Citizen Soldier" was a common way to refer to the Minutemen of the Revolutionary War era. Men who were farmers one minute, but were trained & provisioned and could be at any minute going into battle -as needed. I think it's a term with a highly patriotic association in the minds of many. I would guess that they're recruiting reservists or National Guard members for military service (in any of the branches - Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, or Coast Guard).

But, of course, I'd have a better idea if I saw the actual ad ; )

I haven't seen the ad either, but I agree that the militia is the reference.

I'll try to catch it again and pay closer attention. It's a military commercial but I'm not sure what all else. ( I don't watch a lot of tv if any.)
I just know that at the very end they say, "Become a Citizen Soldier".

Oh, that has to be the reserves/National Guard. It means that you only give them one weekend per month and two weeks in the summer --- till they deploy you to wherever our latest war is for 18 months. :0(
