I took a political telephone survey that used those tactics!!!

Yeah - a few years ago the Census Long form had no "Housewife" option for profession. This despite the fact that about 20 percent of American Women are said to be housewives with no paid work. The closest I could get was "I've been out of work so long that I've given up trying to find a job" (I wrote in my choice, and didn't use their selection - I'm sure someone in the government decided which was best and botched my form for me.)

My sister says she actually know some folks who would be able to choose some of these options!
