My Sister assures me that folks actually DID this in the 80's - when microwaving was the hot, new trend, microwaves were new and huge and had sensors to let you know when a roast was done!

Your DD is a little mischievous, huh? ; )

Yes, my girls are mischievous! They love to practical joke but they're careful with me cuz i do not like the "jokes" unless they are like this one. ;) This same dd once opened the car door and screamed as i was going around a corner on a mountain road. (She was probably jr hi age.) When i stopped the car to beat her for scaring me to death she ran and laughed so hard i almost caught her!

I'm with you on the practical joke thing : )

My DD opened the door on the highway once. But she was a toddler, and I didn't have to kill her for it ; ) Amazing how fast I could reach behind me while driving & shut it!

My Mom always got a 22# turkey - and that was the largest that could be found. I can't imagine squeezing a 25 pounder into a microwave (even if they DID work well for the job)!

Laughing aside, my first turkey was a flop. I just baked it. Yes, I unwrapped it and took out the neck and stuff inside but I didn't season it. To this day dh does the turkey. He uses Cuban seasonings and it's tender, fall off the bones good. No regrets.

I've done precious few turkeys in my life - Mom was an expert at them (even tho she generally did very other cooking thru the year.)

One year she wasn't well enuf to do it, and my Sister & I (both adults at the time!) attempted to do it. We couldn't figure out which side went up. I decided that their feet should go down, as they run that way ; ) It just so happened to make a very tender, juicy turkey - since the juices ran DOWN to the breast (which can be the dry part). I've since seen "experts" recommend doing it that way. Three other times I've done one - I kept a smoker running that my BIL started one year. Another year I got a Butterball precooked smoked turkey (a BIG hit!) and a third time I did a breast in the Crock pot - guests said it turned out well : )

Of course, I haven't EATEN turkey in more than 20 years now - so perhaps folks just flatter me when they say it worked out okay ; )

Or, they figure it tastes better than cooking it themselves!!!

I have my mashed taters, cran salad and the cornbread for the dressing made tonight. I need to read thru the green bean casserole i'm making. I have plenty of time in the morning to finish up. I'm SO THANKFUL to be off work for a day!!! Then back to it on friday.

It's good to have something to be thankful for on Thanksgiving! ;)

We're super-casual this year. We had planned to go out until last night - when we realized DD still wouldn't be up to it. So today I went to the grocery and bought the stuff of a rather basic meal. But, we're cool with that : )

Thank God we have a nice home, family, food, etc. I don't need (or even want) fancy, festive and extravagant.
