want to send their precious children to spend a year with someone who hates spending time with them as much as this teacher does?

(I know it's *supposed* to be funny - but it just sounds bitter to me :( )

I didn't take it that way. It's like so many professions that have that warped perception. Our society likes to look at jobs and say we shouldn't pay that much for what THEY do - like play with kids all day, have early release hours, summers off, etc. I hope they wouldn't BE doing it if they didn't like the kids!!! They're only bitter when they hear people spout off about it being easy. ;)

Now, i do take a little exception to the notion that they need to work another part-time job to make ends meet. IMHO that means you're living above your means. Teachers SHOULD be making a "living wage" but these days we think we need a lot more than that actually means. Teachers SHOULD make more than they used to, tho', because they now have to buy a lot of things they use in class. I'm pretty sure that used to be included in the school budget.

In my, probably socialist, viewpoint, i think normal positions like doctors and teachers and pastors (and virtually everyone!) should make an amount that reflects the median income of those that live there. Specialists should make more. Most people say their income should reflect their education but until the education system is fixed, i disagree. Just because colleges make you jump thru hoops and take a bazillion classes that have NOTHING to do with your job doesn't mean we should have to pay for it.

Hmmm. Am i ranting? LOL

OTOH - i don't like sending my babies off to be taught who-knows-what, be bullied, have me far away from them for 8+ hours every day, have to work our schedule around theirs, ugh!

But, it is nice to have the school have to think up breakfasts and lunches every day and i only have to worry about dinners!!!

Well, there was an article in today's paper about a teacher contesting being fired. She makes 73k - almost TWICE the national average pay for workers (across professions).

I don't object to dedicated teachers receiving fair pay (I come from a long line of professional teachers - and the lady who does my portfolio review every year for homeschool is AMAZING : )

- but my goodness - don't go online and whine about how much you hate your job - then complain that people don't appreciate your services.

LOL Well, THAT's true! As to what she makes - it depends. If she's in a well-to-do area where that's the average income - more power to her. I'd think this must be the case for her to be telling people. ??

Two different teachers here. The whiner who wrote the original article works in NYC (according to the bottom of the article.) Living expenses are very high there - and the salary there doesn't concern me.

The OTHER article about the 73K teacher being fired is from a district where the average salary is 43k. She alleges she's being fired for promoting "trans" stuff. The district alleges she's being fired for performance issues including destruction of records.

I have to admit, it really grates on my nerves when people whine about "having" to do their *chosen* jobs- but still won't change. (I'm totally cool with folks who have no choice but be menial laborers and don't wish to be - they can whine all they want : )

I *ESPECIALLY* hate those articles about how horrible it is to be a homeschool mom - written by homeschool moms. It's the BEST job in the world! :D

Well, duh! Homeschool moms have it the best!!! Not that it's easy.

Destruction of records? Hmmmm. And promoting TRANS STUFF!? Definitely! Why shouldn't she be able to be fired just for that?! :?

It IS the easiest job I've ever had - quite possibly because when you love what you're doing, it ceases to be "work" :D

The teacher who's being fired is arguing that she *cannot* be fired because it would be retaliatory & motivated by discrimination. That's the whole argument.

It seems to be the new "official" American religion. The one that it is unlawful to disrespect : (
