Post subject:  Has Nat'l night out changed?
When we lived in a neighborhood there would be several block parties and police and or firetrucks would visit a few of them. We once had the mayor show up! There would be hot dogs and chips and stuff. Got to talk to neighbor's, etc. We lived out in the country since 2006, so have not participated since then.

Where we live now, the Nat'l night out is at a local mall parking lot where the city sets up booths and fire and rescue and police come out to. There was a rock climbing wall set up and I guess games for the kids. How does this build up the neighborhood? Weird.

Ours is just block parties, I think. The police go around and visit.

We've mostly lived in the country and didn't even know about this event until more recently. The only one i've been to is in a small town (population under 1000) 8 miles from us. It was done in the park. I see what you mean about not building up the neighborhood. Hmmm.

Its still done in neighborhoods around here. Mostly the poor ghetto areas though.
