We drove my mom's 2012 Honda CRZ to Spokane yesterday. We tho't we'd check the gas mileage on normal vs econ. There was virtually NO difference in gas usage!

From what my MOM said/thinks, "econ" means you're running on electric motor. But, from what i'm seeing and reading, that is NOT what it means. I really don't get it. Why is there a "charging" meter? Is the only difference between the two that the a/c doesn't work well? :P

Check p 6 here.

Economy driving is usually *least* beneficial on highway driving (which may explain why it didn't help much on your to Spokane?). You should see a bigger difference with city or hilly driving.

And, yes, one of the things the manual says it does is make the AC work less well : )

Reading thru the manual it seems the "econ" button is supposed to help you drive more economically by giving you feedback on your driving. I already drive economically! 8-) :ugeek: OUR "highway" driving IS hilly driving - LOL.

I do think it might help a little driving around town with all of its starts and stops. I says the most gas is used when re-accelerating after a complete stop (if you're driving economically) and that's where the electric motor comes in. It turns off the engine while stopped and restarts it when you release the brake pedal - i think.

We don't do enuf town driving for that to be noticeable!

Lol, our manual is on CD and still shrink wrapped. Thanks for the info, that explains the annoying lull with the AC. I will be switching it off.
