http://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/pubs/QS/ZT1212QS.pdfEconomy driving is usually *least* beneficial on highway driving (which may explain why it didn't help much on your to Spokane?). You should see a bigger difference with city or hilly driving.
Reading thru the manual it seems the "econ" button is supposed to help you drive more economically by giving you feedback on your driving. I already drive economically!
OUR "highway" driving IS hilly driving - LOL.
I do think it might help a little driving around town with all of its starts and stops. I says the most gas is used when re-accelerating after a complete stop (if you're driving economically) and that's where the electric motor comes in. It turns off the engine while stopped and restarts it when you release the brake pedal - i think.
We don't do enuf town driving for that to be noticeable!
